Game Preview
The San Antonio Spurs (11-12) will look to snap their three-game skid as they host the struggling New Orleans Pelicans (5-18) on Sunday night. While the Spurs have hovered around .500 this season, the Pelicans have stumbled out of the gate, winning just 21.7% of their games.
Offense has been a major issue for New Orleans, averaging just 104.3 points per game on a mediocre 43.6% shooting. Their three-point shooting has been particularly anemic at 32.9%. The Pelicans' defense hasn't fared much better, allowing a hefty 116.4 points to opponents. They're coming off a dismal 1-9 stretch where they mustered only 103.3 points per game while surrendering a whopping 119.5.
San Antonio, on the other hand, has found more offensive rhythm, averaging nearly 111 points on a respectable 45.5% shooting. They've leaned heavily on their outside touch, knocking down 34.5% from deep. The Spurs' defense has shown vulnerability, however, allowing 113 points per game. Their recent form has dipped, dropping four of their last five while giving up 125.4 points on a 43.6% clip from the field.
Despite their recent slide, San Antonio should have the edge at home against a Pelicans squad that has won just 3 of their last 20 games. If the Spurs can shore up their defense and continue their efficient scoring, they'll be well-positioned to get back on track in this matchup.
