Recap of MLB Yesterday

Philadelphia Phillies 7 vs. Atlanta Braves 6

Max Fried got absolutely roasted out there, giving up 6 runs (4 earned) in 3.1 innings. The Phillies were definitely hot but Nick Castellanos had a day, responsible for three of the runs himself.

The braves tried to come back in the ninth, scoring three runs to make it a 7-6 game but were unable to pull it off.

Phillies lead the series 1-0.

Seattle Mariners 7 vs. Houston Astros 8

Justin Verlander put the Astros in a bad spot giving up 6 runs through 4.0 innings. However the Astros kept clawing back in the game. Altuve scored a rrun, Pena scored a run, Bregman scored a run, Gurriel scored a run, McCormick scored a run, and Yordan Alvarez scored two runs including a walk off to end the game.

Houston Astros lead the series 1-0.

Cleveland Guardians 1 vs. New York Yankees 4

This game was an absolute pitching duel, Cal Quantrill threw 5 K’s through 5.0 innings, Gerrit Cole had 8 strikeouts through 6.1 innings.

Both team really brought their best pitching to the game. Rizzo had a great game with 2 RBIs in the sixth.

This should be a close series with both teams wanting it bad.

Yankees lead the series 1-0.

Los Angeles Dodgers 5 vs. San Diego Padres 3

While not the standard freeway series, these two neighboring teams have faced each other a number of times this season. During the regular season, The Dodgers lead The Padres 14-5 in their meetings this year.

Mike Clevinger took the bump for the Padres giving up 2 runs in the first and 3 runs in the third inning. He unfortunately put their offense behind early. The bullpen came in clutch though and didn’t give up any more runs.

On the other side, The Dodgers had Julio Urías pitching. He had four scoreless innings before giving up 3 in the fifth. Again, the bullpen came in and held the Padres there.

This should be another great series with two of the best teams in baseball.

Dodgers lead the series 1-0.

Yu Darvish (SD) Under 5.5 Total Strikeouts

Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres will be facing the Los Angeles Dodgers. Darvish has a 3.1 ERA and 25.6% strikeout rate. Darvish has been averaging 1.0 strikeouts per inning, which would require him to go at least 6.0 innings which seems unlikely if he gets behind at all. The Dodgers have a 22.0% strikeout rate and 10.8% swinging strike rate as well as a 18.5 ISO. The Padres have shown to put their pitching on tight leashes and aren’t afraid to leverage their bullpen if necessary.

Zack Wheeler (PHI) Under 5.5 Total Strikeouts

Zack Wheeler and the Philadelphia Phillies will be facing the Atlanta Braves. Wheeler has a 2.82 ERA and 26.9% strikeout rate. Wheeler has been averaging 1.1 strikeouts per inning, which would require him to go at least 5.5 innings. The Braves have a 24.6% strikeout rate and 13.0% swinging strike rate as well as a 19.0 ISO. The Phillies are ahead in the series right now and they would like to keep it that way, Wheeler will likely get help from the bullpen as soon as he gets in trouble.
